Disney’s ‘High School Musical’ tour skates into Sprint Center on success of movies

“High School Musical” on skates glides into Sprint Center this weekend. Here are some facts and figures on the biggest phenomenon in show business this side of Hannah Montana.
First, in case you have no young children and avoid the pop charts, “High School Musical” was an original two-hour movie on the Disney Channel way back in January 2006. It featured relative unknowns Zac Efron, Ashley Tisdale, Corbin Bleu, Monique Coleman and Vanessa Anne Hudgens and drew little mainstream attention.
But the movie set a Nielsens ratings mark for Disney, and the soundtrack went quadruple platinum, making it the best-selling album of 2006.
“High School Musical 2” had its debut on Disney this year, and “High School Musical 3” will start filming next year. A Broadway-size production has proved to be a winner in theaters and is part of Starlight Theatre’s 2008 season.
•The story is about a basketball player and the new girl in school who want to try out for a school musical, but others prefer that they stick to their own thing.
•The ice show combines music and songs from “High School Musical” and “High School Musical 2.” Both movies are given about 45 minutes with a 15-minute intermission.
•No one from the original show is on ice here, but their voices are. The skaters are just acting out the parts.
•The creative team of the ice show is the same as the original “High School Musical,” including producer Kenny Ortega, who directed and choreographed the original; director Jeff Calhoun, who put together the stage show; writer Peter Barsocchini, costume designer Erin Lareau and choreographer Charles Klapow. Skating choreographer Cindy Stuart, a Disney on Ice veteran, assisted Klapow after he helped the skaters work on their dance moves in a studio.
“It killed me to just stand on the side of the rink yelling out instructions,” he told the Deseret News of Utah. “I put on ice skates for the first time in my life in Los Angeles, and for one month I worked (on ice). It was pretty tricky, but because of my dance background, they helped me adapt.”
•The show started out with three separate casts totaling 102 skaters.
•The show is produced by Feld Entertainment, which is better-known for the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus and Disney on Ice. Nicole Feld, 29, told the Lancaster New Era she’s a fan of the show.
“It really isn’t a leap of faith,” she said. “ ‘High School Musical’ is just a natural for the ice with its great songs and dance numbers.”
•The show is a unique Disney on Ice production because one of the characters, the narrator, Kelsey, is using a live microphone.
•Some of the skaters have competitive and professional backgrounds.

Jordan Brauninger (Troy) was ranked third among American men and 14th in the world during the 2004-05 season. He has won 21 medals in regional, sectional and national competitions.
Sandy Rucker (Sharpay) was the 2005 U.S. Juniors national champion.
Lane Walker (Gabriella) has competed in regional championships this year on the senior level and skated with Ebony on Ice.
Simeon Hanks (Chad) was a 1997 U.S. Novice men’s silver medalist and a 2003 bronze medalist in the Southwestern Regional Championships.
Bonard Muck (Ryan) got a second place in novice dance at the 1999 Canadian Winter Games and joined Disney on Ice after that.

Tia Mowry

Tia Dashon Mowry (born July 6, 1978) is an American actress. She first gained fame for her role opposite her identical twin sister Tamera Mowry in the sitcom Sister, Sister.

Early life

Mowry was born in Gelnhausen, West Germany to Darlene Flowers, who managed her children's careers and also worked as a security guard, and Timothy Mowry, who was in the armed services and later became a police officer in California. Her mother is African American and her father is Italian-American; the two met in high school in Miami and both joined the military. She is the older sister of Tavior and Tahj Mowry. She is younger than her twin sister, Tamera, by two minutes. Her family is "close-knit" and "deeply religious", as the sisters became born-again Christians when they were eight.

Career
Mowry and her sister began entering pageants and talent shows while their family was stationed in Texas. At age 12, they convinced their mother to move to California with them so they could pursue an acting career. She agreed, on the condition that they land an acting job the first month. In 1990, their family moved to California permanently and she and her sister began appearing in commercials and other small roles. .
She is best known for playing Tia Landry, a twin separated at birth and reunited with her sister as a teenager in the show Sister, Sister. The series was developed for them after a producer spotted them on the set of Full House, a show on which their brother made regular appearances. Sister, Sister was initially on ABC but was cancelled by the network after two years and picked up by The WB, where it ran for another four years. During its run, they appeared on an episode of their brother Tahj Mowry's show Smart Guy. They also did voiceover work for the Kids' WB cartoon series Detention.
After the show ended, both Mowry and her sister studied psychology at Pepperdine University. She also went to Europe to study humanities and Italian for a period.[5] Both she and her sister and brother appeared in the movie The Hot Chick playing cheerleaders. Mowry did voiceovers for the Bratz cartoon series as the voice of Sasha. In 2005, Mowry and her sister both starred in the Disney Channel Original Movie Twitches and will reprise their roles in its sequel, Twitches Too. Mowry appeared on an episode of her sister's television show, Strong Medicine, in January 2006, playing the role of Keisha, the twin sister of Tamera Mowry's character, Dr. Kayla Thornton. She has a few movie projects planned, as well as a starring role in the CW television series The Game. Tia has been nominated for a Teen Choice Award.

Wizards of Waverly Place is a new live-action comedy Disney Channel Original Series which premiered on October 12, 2007 on Disney Channel, [1] and is due to be released on Family Channel in Canada on October 26th at 7:00pm, as well as Disney Channel UK on November 3rd at 10:00am. The series focuses on the three Russo children who on the surface seem to be normal teens, but are actually wizards in training.
Wizards of Waverly Place is the first Disney sitcom to feature simple computer-generated imagery such as superimposing. The tagline in advertisements is "They've got the power!" and "Being a teenager can be tricky." On its premiere night, it scored 5.93 million viewers.

Halloweentown

Halloweentown is a Disney Channel Original Movie released in October 1998 to correspond with the holiday of Halloween.

Halloweentown II: Kalabar's Revenge is a Disney Channel Original Movie released in October of 2001 to go along with the holiday of Halloween. This is the first sequel in the Halloweentown series and it was followed by two others, Halloweentown High (2004) and Return to Halloweentown (2006). Halloweentown II: Kalabar's Revenge was known by two other names as well during production, Halloweentown II and Return To Halloweentown.

Halloweentown High is a Disney Channel Original Movie released in October of 2004 to go along with the holiday of Halloween as did the previous films. This is the second sequel in the Halloweentown series and it was followed by one other, Return to Halloweentown in 2006.

Return to Halloweentown is a Disney Channel Original Movie that premiered on October 20, 2006. It is the fourth sequel to the DCOM Halloweentown. In this sequel, Marnie Piper (Sara Paxton) and her brother, Dylan Piper (Joey Zimmerman), go to Witch University to attend college in Halloweentown. While at college, dark forces try to control her magic.

Halloweentown: She's The Witch is the fifth movie of the Disney Channel Original Movie, Halloweentown series started in October 1998. Halloweentown: She's The Witch is set to premiere on the 3rd of October in 2008. It is rumoured that Kimberly J. Brown will be back as Marnie Piper in Halloweentown: She's the Witch. The movie will be either about Marnie's second year of Witch U, a continuity of the fourth movie, Return to Halloweentown, or will be about after Marnie graduates. It is said that the plot may be about a shapeshifter assuming Marnie's or somebody else's identity to make them evil, hence the name She's the Witch. Debbie Reynolds should also make more of an appearance this time around, and they are hopeful to bring more people back. Luke from 1 & 2 may also return for this final installment.

Twitches is a 2005 Disney Channel Original Movie, and is very loosely based on the first book in the popular T*Witches series published by Scholastic Press. Produced by Broomsticks Productions Limited, the film stars Tia and Tamera Mowry from Sister, Sister fame as, respectively, Alexandra Fielding and Camryn Barnes. On its premiere night Twitches scored 7.02 million viewers - the best Disney Channel Original Movie ratings at that time.

Twitches Too is a 2007 Disney Channel Original Movie. It is the sequel to the hit Disney Channel Original Movie Twitches, released in 2005. The film released on October 12th & began production in late April 2007. Twitches Too is set to air during Disney Channel's Halloween Month.

High School Musical is an American telefilm. Released on January 20, 2006, it was one of the most successful Disney Channel Original Movies (DCOM) produced, with a television sequel released August 17, 2007 and a feature film sequel in the planning process.[2] The film's soundtrack was the best-selling album of 2006. The film was shot almost entirely in the Wasatch Front in Utah (namely Salt Lake City and Murray). With a plot described as a modern retelling of Romeo & Juliet,[4] High School Musical is a story of two high school juniors from rival cliques: Troy Bolton (Zac Efron), captain of the basketball team, and Gabriella Montez (Vanessa Hudgens), a shy transfer student who excels in math and science. Together, they try out for the lead parts in their high school musical, and as a result, divide the school. Despite other students' attempts to thwart their dreams, Troy and Gabriella resist peer pressure and rivalry, inspiring others along the way not to "stick with the status quo." This was Disney Channel's most successful movie at its time with 7.7 million viewers in its premiere broadcast in the US. In the UK, it received 789,000 viewers for its premiere (and 1.2 million viewers overall during the first week), making the film the most watched program for the Disney Channel (UK) of 2006. It was also the first ever Disney Channel Original Movie to be broadcast on the BBC on December 29, 2006 . On August 16, 2007 ratings went slightly up to 6.0 million viewers.

High School Musical 2 is the sequel to the Disney Channel Original
